I had never made bread until this week! So if I can make bread- you can make bread. This homemade bread with instant yeast is so easy! And SO yummy! I think I am going to be making it a few times a week- so maybe I shouldn’t have started making bread haha.
The key to this bread recipe is a dutch oven. It makes the perfect crusty dutch oven bread. I use my dutch oven alllll the time. This is the one I have and it is so affordable and cute- I love having it out on my counter. I wish I would have picked the white one but I use it so much I think I might buy another. I have had mine 4 years and it is still in perfect shape. And check out the amazing reviews- over 10,000 of them. I have the 6 quart one and have since made this recipe bigger to better fit the dutch oven I have- so the loaf will be a little bigger than these photos. Ingredients
- 2 1/2 tsp instant yeast
- 4 cups all purpose flour
- 2 tsp sea salt– I first used normal table salt but it is so much better with this fancy sea salt– I use this salt for everything now!
- 2 cups warm water – not too hot.

- Mix dry ingredients together in glass bowl with spatula.
- Add the water and mix with hands until a ball forms. Just quickly- no mixer or anything needed.
- Then cover the bowl with plastic wrap you spray with cooking spray. Then put a damp dishtowel over the plastic wrap.
- Let the dough sit covered for 12-18 or even up to 24 hours.
- Take the dough out of the bowl with a spatula and place on a floured surface and ball into a ball. The dough ball should be loose and floppy.
- Let bread rise again for a half hour.
- While bread is rising- preheat oven to 450 degrees.
- When you turn on the oven, place the empty dutch oven in the oven to preheat with it.
- Carefully take out the dutch oven from the oven and place the ball of dough into the dutch oven with the lid on. Lightly spray the dutch oven with cooking spray first.
- Bake at 450 for 30 minutes with the lid on.
- Take off the lid and cook for 10-15 more minutes until golden brown.
- Let the bread cool on a cooling rack before slicing.
This crusty bread is so yummy with jam and butter. I can’t wait to make some different varieties with garlic, rosemary etc.
I also love dipping this bread with balsamic vinegar. And in olive oil with dried spices. A good mixture is olive oil, balsamic vinegar and minced garlic.
