My family and I love hiking all around Utah. But my husband and I are Utah born and raised. We met in high school haha. So we have explored a lot of the state! We love Payson Canyon. It has so much beauty! Full of green trees and amazing views. Also a great place to see the fall leaves! But a unique place to see in Payson Canyon is the Devil’s Kitchen Utah trail.
How to find Devil’s Kitchen Utah Trail
The Devil’s Kitchen Utah trail can be found on the Nebo Loop. You can start in Payson and drive the whole loop and end right outside the town of Nephi, Utah. Or you can do the loop vice versa too of course. The Devil’s Kitchen Utah viewpoint is closer to the Nephi side of the loop. But if you have the time drive the whole loop. Sadly there was a big fire in the canyon two years ago so there are sections of the views that are covered with black trees. It is really sad! Devil’s Kitchen Utah trail is 28 miles from Payson.
You can’t really call the Devil’s Kitchen Utah trail a trail. It is more a walk. Which is perfect for kids! It is even paved. So you can bring strollers, wheelchairs etc. I would say it is about 1/4 mile each way if that!
You will pull up to the little parking lot and will be happy to know there are bathrooms at the start. Also there is a plaque to read that talks about how the Devil’s Kitchen Utah area is known as a “mini Bryce Canyon” Which speaking of Bryce Canyon haha. If you haven’t been to Bryce Canyon National Park in Southern Utah you need to. It is beautiful! One of my favorite parks! We have a goal to go to all of the parks and have been to 12 so far!
So walk along the paved path and you will all the sudden see stunning red rock! It feels so out of place in the best way! So pretty! The lookout isn’t a huge area. Just a fenced off outlook that looks down onto lots of red rock hoodoos- (those balancing rock features) But for sure the fun scenic drive and an excuse to get out with the family and breathe the fresh air!
Hiking Must Haves on Amazon
Since we love hiking and hike allll the time- I wanted to share some of our family hiking favorites.
1// This is awesome! It is a foldable hiking blanket. I love it because you can just hook it onto a backpack. With kids it is so nice and perfect for a picnic, crawling baby etc. It is also a sand proof beach blanket.
2// These BEAR fruit yoyo’s are so yummy. They are 100% fruit and that is all. Perfect for hiking and it is a snack that the whole family loves!
3// If you get one thing for hiking with kids make it this! This baby carrier is AMAZING! We bought it when Beck was a baby so we have had it 4 years and it is still going strong. It still looks really nice and can hold a child until 45 pounds. So Beck still can fit in it for a long time. It has a metal frame so it distributes the weight well.
4// You need to make sure you have water with you when hiking of course. I love this pouch because you wear it like a backpack. We have had this for years and it holds up great.
5// This is a water filter. We have some we keep for emergencies. And it also is a great hiking must have. If you were to run out of water then this filter will save the day and let you have drinking water.
6// I love this sunscreen! It is awesome because it is waterproof. Also it works good for hiking and sweating etc. You can put this sunscreen on while wet. So I love just having it in my bag all the time in the summer when we end up at the water- which is often. Don’t believe me- check the reviews!
7// Hammocks are so fun! And this one is great because it is a double hammock. We love just loading up our family and chilling in the hammock together! A fun way to end a hike is in a hammock.
8// We always bring a first aid kit. Then it is something we at all times keep in our car. Especially with kids it is always good to have some bandages on hand haha.
