I love the 4th of July! It is seriously one of my very favorite holidays- I might even say favorite but I just don’t know how you do that. Of course I love Christmas & I reallllly love Halloween too! For the 4th- we spent a lot of time with family! We went to the town parade which is a really big deal. We saw the hot air balloon festival, made homemade backyard pizzas, ordered pizza & did fireworks & watched big ones from our yard! I loved watching Beck experience the magic of fireworks! He loved doing small fireworks with Eric & his uncles & would make them light them over & over again! It was so funny to watch Beck with the pop it little snap fireworks! He would throw box after box haha. I am glad in Utah we have the 24th of July- which is another patriotic holiday so that we can use the rest of the ones we bought. Eric told me we needed to be fun & buy some fireworks so we bought a pack that was only $12- & there was a reason- all the fireworks were basically the same just named different things haha. But luckily we had a lot of neighbors launching really great ones that Beck couldn’t get enough of!
I want to share this fun treat I whipped up for us to munch on during our festivities. It was really easy & I love rice krispies- & it seems everyone does haha they were gone so quick!
I wanted to share how I made these because I did a few things to these that made them so good! I think the trick was a little bit of salt & vanilla- the recipe is below. I had a bag of fun patriotic m&m’s that I just had to do something with. I liked turning them upside down because I thought it was cuter to not see the m’s- I tried it both ways. You can always buy m&m’s on their own by color at party stores & then you could get less blue if you want since you use less of them.
This recipe made 2 9×13 pans! Maybe because I didn’t make them too thick- just normal haha.
Ingredients
1/2cupbutter
8 cups mini marshmallows
1/2tspvanilla extract
1/4 tsp salt
10ishcups of Rice Krispies cereal
112 oz bagswhite chocolate chips
111 oz bagspatriotic M&Ms*If these bags are not in stores near you, craft stores sell M&Ms by color and you can use a mixture of those in patriotic colors.
Spray a 13 x 9 pan with cooking spray and set aside.
In a large pot over low heat, melt the butter. Stir in the marshmallows and continue to stir until melted and blended. Add in the vanilla and salt and continue to stir until combined.
Remove from the heat, and stir in the 10 cups of krispies. Stir until the marshmallow mixture until well coated.
Pour the mixture into the prepared pan. Spray a spatula lightly with cooking spray and press the kripies into the pan. Do not make them too compact or else the treats will be very dense. The tops of the rice krispies should be level.
Let the kripsies set for at least an hour or until cool. Cut then into rectangles- so they resemble the shape of a flag.
In a medium bowl, melt half of the chocolate chips according to the package. If you melt them all at once, they will harden back up. Using a knife, spread each krispie treat with a thick layer of white chocolate. Press the M&Ms into the chocolate in the design of a flag- Four blue in the corner, then stripes of red and white.
