Everyone loves some cute indoor plants! I decided to buy some new plants and paint terracotta planter pots for them to go in! It was a blast! Painting is always a great way to be creative and release stress! Let me walk you through the simple steps of this DIY!
- Go to a local nursery and pick out some cute plants! Local nurseries are usually cheaper than large stores like Lowe’s and Home Depot. I went to Mccord’s Gardens in Provo! I highly recommend getting plants that are easy to take care of and don’t require constant care (succulents, cacti, and palms are good for this!) Two of mine are already struggling, I wish I would have gotten cacti or succulents haha.
- Buy some terracotta pots! I ordered mine from Walmart and picked them up at the store, super easy + cheap! The size of your pots and saucers should be 1-2 inches bigger than the plant you have. I got two sizes of plants (2 inch and 4 inch) so I got two sizes of pots and saucers (4 inches and 7 inches). Also pick out some acrylic paints (only 5$ for the set, super good deal right now! ), indoor plant dirt, and a spray bottle or watering can! You will also need to seal the painted pots with a clay pot sealant. I used outdoor modge podge but I HIGHLY recommend not using this because it dried sticky. Plaid makes a clay pot sealer that should work perfectly!
- Time to paint the base coat of the pots! I painted them white so other colors would show up well on top! Make sure the pots are dusted off before painting, especially if they have been used before!
- Paint over the pots with whatever designs you like. Here are some ideas that I liked and found on the web:
- Rainbow Plant Pot
- Arizona Desert Cacti Painted Pot
- Arizona Pot-Anthro
- Mini Boho Hand painted Terracotta Clay Plant Pots
- Hand Painted Fruit Plant Pots
- Navy Ombre Painted Terra Cotta Pot
- Boho Inspired Planter Pots
- Whimsy Planter Pots
- Mushroom Pot
- Sunrise Pot
- Abstract Painted Planter Pot
- Warm Waves
- Terrazzo Pots
- Seal the pots with the clay pot sealant and let dry for however long it says on the label.
- Pot your plants in your newly painted pots and you are good to go! Here’s a couple of the finished plant pots:
I also got a plant care app called Vera, which I really like! It tells you how to take care of your plant and what to do if it starts turning yellow, drooping, etc. It also lets you set reminders for watering, fertilizing, and so forth. Super helpful!!
