Okay I am so excited about this post! I have been thinking for awhile how I could have a fun travel countdown- okay that’s not the right word- travel tracker? Basically I wanted a way to keep track of all the places we travel to! So I collect magnets and am getting quite the collection but I wanted something more.
I had seen cute maps framed, scratch off maps- but they didn’t have the states divided and some countries divided. Anyway I haven’t been able to find something that I love. I love old globes and found this one at a vintage store in Portland on our last vacation. The globe was only $20 and I couldn’t leave it there.
Eric my genius husband always wants to paint things gold & had the idea to paint where we have been on the globe. I was sold!
To do this craft you will need:
- One globe- I’m a sucker for the vintage ones.
- Metallic Paint
- Micro Sponge Paintbrush but could probably use toothpicks. I used a 40% coupon at Hobby Lobby.
I decided to paint every place we have been to gold. I couldn’t decide what to do with Utah- our home- but I decided to paint it silver. When I first painted it I didn’t like how stark of a contrast it was. I ended up mixing gold & silver together and then painting Utah. I feel like we need to go to Colorado ASAP so you can’t notice the kinda crooked line.
This globe is only the places that we have been to together. I thought we had been a few places but once I started painting on the globe it seems like we have seen so little. I haven’t been everywhere but it’s on my list!
