Oh potty training! I never knew how hard it could be! Beck really wants to go to preschool in the fall & I think he will love it! I am excited for a little me time & I know he will love it & I think it will be great for both of us! Still so crazy that he is old enough to go to preschool- cue the tears!

So anyway of course if he is going to preschool he has gotta get potty trained. I started a few months ago and worked on it really hard but then Eric & I went out of town & it kinda was lost. So now we’re back to our potty training journey and it’s all hands on deck. I also feel the pressure since he is three and it’s time!

I have learned that when I have things that make it fun for Beck he loves it! Sticking to a routine & keeping things consistent makes it easier for him, which he likes! I mean this works for everything- kids love & thrive on routines! Something that we got a couple months ago was this new Sesame Street Elmo Hooray! 3-in-1 Potty. This potty has all the bells and whistles to keep him interested at an affordable price ($29.99)!

What Beck loves most about it is that it has a pretend flush feature that makes sounds when he moves the flush handle up & down. It doesn’t go anywhere but it is his favorite thing! When you flush it plays fun & encouraging Elmo phrases & sounds that help make potty training more fun & enjoyable! But if you want you can always turn the sound off & there is a low & high volume setting. So what I really love about this potty is the 3-in-1 factor! It is convertible to use on a regular toilet, making the child’s transition to an adult toilet even easier! And then aside from being a potty, you can simply close the lid & it also can be used on a step stool that holds up to 200 pounds. A lot of the time Beck will stand on it to wash his hands & it is so convenient.

Other things that have made potty training a little more fun is a personalized book where the story is about Elmo & it says Beck in it! I also let him go to the store where I let him pick out a toy. And then we keep the toy in the box in the bathroom. It works great because he gets excited every time he is in the bathroom going potty & sees it sitting there. I made a sticker chart & then every time he goes he gets a sticker to put on the chart. Then when the chart is full he gets the toy. But throughout the chart there are mini prizes to keep him excited & motivated. They are things like Beck getting to pick out an ice cream flavor, go look at the pet store etc.

While we were at the store I also let Beck pick out some fun underwear. He has some fun character ones & then he also has these ones that are awesome & really absorbent.

Another thing I have been doing is using our Google Home or you can use an Alexa etc to set off an alarm every 30 minutes. This way I don’t forget to have Beck try often & it has really cut down the amount of accidents.

    1. Hi Roxy! Thanks for reading! Good luck! Yeah I think it depends on the kid. But I feel like for the most part with boys it’s better to try when they are a little older and my son is 3 and it seems to be the right age.

  2. This is AMAZING! We’ve been preparing to potty train Addi soon and have been looking for little potties for her. She loves ELMO and I love that it has the flush feature!

  5. These tips are going to help a lot of parents. My two girls potty trained really easily, but my son was a different story. I wish I’d had this back then.

  6. Great tips! I have 2 year old b/g twins and am currently potty training my girl. She has shown so much interest and is doing great. My boy is not quite ready, shows no interest at all. I’m totally okay with that. I’m okay with handling one twin at a time. I would love to win this for them and thank you again for all the tips!

  11. We have been trying to potty train our almost 3 stubborn little boy FOREVER! We’ve tried rewards/bribes, positive reinforcement, taking a break, having him spend the weekends without diapers, shopping for big boy underwear, and so many books. Nothing has worked. Maybe this Elmo potty is just the thing that will finally get him excited about the potty.
