Washington DC is kind of magical! I love being in a place that is filled with so much history & is so old! It is crazy seeing the building on the East coast vs. the West coast since they are so much older. Also the cobblestone streets are just the coolest!
We found cheap flights from SLC to DC so that was enough reason to go visit! I love DC & it was so fun to go with Eric & Beck- just the three of us! I think that weekend getaways are pretty much the best! I loved being able to reconnect with my family & not worry about anything else.
Here are some of the things we did with Beck that I recommend doing with kids:
- Exploring the National Mall- of course the monuments are amazing & that is what everyone loves to do. But Beck loved just running around on the grass by the Washington Monument. This area wasn’t blocked off & we were the only people there so it was nice for Beck to get out of the stroller & enjoy himself!
- Air & Space Museum- hands down Beck’s favorite thing! He keeps talking about the planes he got to sit in & the best part it is a Smithsonian museum so it is free!
- National Museum of Natural History- also free & so cool! Beck loved all the taxidermy animals. There were also a lot interactive things he loved.
- We didn’t do it this time but I have done it before- visit the zoo there! It is also free & in the cutest area.
- Find food trucks & uique places to eat- we love it & so does Beck.
Where we stayed is what made this trip so amazing! We stayed right in the city at the One Washington Circle Hotel. I loved that the hotel was right across the street from a roundabout park. It made it so nice to walk with Beck to the park & we also had the best view. Our room had a balcony that we loved to sit out on. It was fun to see the city scape in the morning with the sun coming through & also at night lit up.
One Washington Circle Hotel is perfect for family & kids. It made it easy that they valeted our car right when we pulled up. This hotel has thought of so many things that take it to the next level. For example they always have water down in the lobby that was so nice & one of Beck’s favorite things haha. The hotel also has a restaurant which was so nice- we ate breakfast there & the french toast was unreal! It was so nice to be able to get breakfast right there before we went into the city.
Our suite was so perfect for our family! Since there were different rooms Beck was able to have his own space. Beck doesn’t sleep if we are in hotel room where he can see us so this suite was amazing. Our room had a full kitchen- so that was helpful to be able to have some food on hand & to be able to bring leftovers back! We also had a dining room that we loved bring take out back to so we had our own space & we could eat amongst the city lights- it was my favorite! Can you believe we had a piano in our room? It was precious to have Eric to play the piano to Beck to get him to sleep haha. Another really nice feature was that we had 2 bathrooms which came in really handy.
I cannot say enough great things about this hotel! I will definitely be back next time we are in the city. I loved the area- we found a taco shop right by that we loved.
